I did have a PC capable of playing all disc formats, but it never played them to my satisfaction. I sold the case & kept the main case for what was my everyday PC. I then decided to rebuild the old one & make it into a general everyday PC, & keep the other PC for gaming when the Nephews come round to visit. A pic of the old case is below.

The beauty of building a PC yourself, is you can choose the pieces required for the PC to do the job you want it to do, in this case is to playback Hi-definition discs at some point in the future or downloaded Hi-definition media, watch & record digital TV and as serve as my main everyday PC for surfing the internet, office tasks, printing photos etc.) also if any part of the PC goes wrong, you simply replace the duff bit instead of sending it away to be repaired! I wanted this PC to be more energy efficient than the gaming rig, but almost as powerful, more up to date & most importantly, silent! I’ve been into PC’s since 1994, I am a experienced PC builder & I upgrade PC’s for myself, family & close friends all the time. So building such a PC myself would not be a problem.
So at the end of 2009, I took apart the old PC, sold the bits I didn’t want on ebay & bought new bits. I did keep a few bits behind to transfer to my new everyday PC In December 2009. (see the photo below for the bits I bought)
The bits required for the build are.
Silverstone LC17 desktop ATX PC Case in Silver.
Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 CPU.
Gigabyte GA-33M-DS2R Motherboard
2gig Crucial Ballistix 6400 DDR2 memory.

Anyone with a bit of electronic knowledge can build a PC, so I am going to show you how I built this one on the following pages.
